consumated ... maybe consummated
Maybe consummated, used or even secondhand. Its not nice to be called used, its worse still to be called second hand. But consummated, that is something else - there is romance attached to it. From the past, records, essays, writeups, by me, by others, already publically published. Maybe from past blogs. Maybe someone reading this may say, "I have read that before", so be it - Lias.

Retired. Lives in in the Far East, in Malaysia to be precise. Vision & Mission in life left too far behind; but who can crystallise the future?; now take the seconds, minutes, hours and days as they come by.

Paranoid Fantasies About 9-11
Detract From Real Issues
By Gerard Holmgren, 2003-02-15
Astute observers of history are aware that for every notable event there
will usually be at least one, often several, wild conspiracy theories
which spring up around it. "The CIA killed Hendrix", "The Pope had John
Lennon murdered ", "Hitler was half Werewolf", "Space aliens replaced
Nixon with a clone", etc, etc. The bigger the event, the more ridiculous
and more numerous are the fanciful rantings which circulate in relation
to it.
So it's hardly surprising that the events of Sept 11 2001 have spawned
their fair share of these ludicrous fairy tales. And as always, there is
sadly a small but gullible percentage of the population eager to lap up
these tall tales, regardless of facts or rational analysis.
One of the wilder stories circulating about Sept 11, and one that has
attracted something of a cult following among st conspiracy buffs is that
it was carried out by 19 fanatical Arab hijackers, masterminded by an
evil genius named Osama bin Laden, with no apparent motivation other
than that they "hate our freedoms."
I normally do not print anything about politic, but this time I am making an exception. What happens in UMNO these years affect all of us, and our children and the future generations, so I am taking a bit of interest here.

'Towering Malay' vs 'Towering Malaysian'
Posted by jeffooi at February 20, 2005 03:58 PM
Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi spoke within closed doors a fortnight
ago on the need for "towering Malays" to emerge - the Malays "who should
stand head and shoulders above his peers, as icons of high intellect, with
high values, a successful career, good economic standing and well-respected
culture and religion".
Suhaini Aznam (Sunday Star, Feb 20) has a response, pointing to the internal
ills of Umnoputera:

Sadly, Datuk Seri, I fear we may not find this towering Malay
in Umno. The party system itself works against it.
Apart from the few top leaders who won the Umno elections
unchallenged, the rest of the party chieftains all down the line
had to fight tooth and nail for their positions. Even branch
chiefs competed fiercely, never mind the division chiefs. Tens
of thousands - dare I say millions - of ringgit are dangled
before the delegates to the party assembly, despite strenuous
calls from above against money politics.

North Korea: Is Pyongyang's Claim To Have Nuclear Arms An Idle Boast?
By Breffni O'Rourke Monday, 14 February 2005
North Korea surprised the world with its assertion last week that it already
has nuclear weapons and is withdrawing from the six-country talks dealing
with its nuclear program. But is this only a bluff by the isolated and
secretive North Koreans?
South Korean officials note there is not proof the weapons actually exist.
Nevertheless, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan has warned of a possible
"cascade" of countries acquiring nuclear weapons in the coming years if firm
action is not taken now.

Prague, 14 February 2005 (RFE/RL) -- South Korea is questioning the latest
assertion by communist North Korea that it already has atomic weapons. South
Korea's Unification Minister Chung Dong-young says there is no evidence the
weapons actually exist.

Do not celebrate Valentine's Day, Muslims told
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 14:
Muslims have been asked not to celebrate Valentine's Day as the celebration
is unIslamic.
The call came from Islamic Women Consultative Council chairman, Datuk
Kamilia Ibrahim, who said Valentine's Day is not one of the Islamic cultures
and traditions.
"Most of us know that Valentine's Day is a day to celebrate a priest called
St Valentine," she said.
She said although the Valentine Day's celebration in the country is not
being carried out in a religious way, it still should not be practised
differently as a culture.
"The celebration can encourage maksiat (vice) among teenagers," she said,
stressing that the Mufti of Perak, Datuk Seri Harussani Zakaria, had voiced
his views on the matter before.
In 1995, Harussani had said that the Valentine Day's celebration is haram
(prohibited) for Muslims as the celebration was not part of the religion and
it could also affect their faith.
"Loving relationships is not only for one day. Muslims must practise it
every day among the families, siblings and neighbours," he was quoted as
saying.
The Malaysian Indian Muslim Congress (KIMMA) secretary-general, Amir Amsaa
Allapitchay, in sharing Kamilia's sentiment, said Muslims have never
celebrated Valentine's Day.
"It is just that Muslims have been influenced by advertisements in the media
to celebrate the day," he said.

Safety on the road
By DEEPAK GILL
Everyday around the world, 2,000 people become victims of road
accidents. In Malaysia, we lose an average of 17 lives a day. Though
accidents and deaths can’t be eliminated, practical knowledge on
traffic issues and vehicle dynamics could reduce fatalities. This
Survival Smarts series looks at road safety.
BEING on the road carries with it inherent risks. Knowing how to
handle dangerous situations as well as understanding safety issues go
a long way in minimising the risks.
As drivers, we need to know about road safety, crisis situations and
accidents.
One of the main causes of accidents and near-misses is a lack of
concentration, according to research by the National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration (NHTSA), a US government body
(www.nhtsa.dot.gov). A driver should focus only on driving. Everything
else is secondary, especially conversations while driving.
